A new set of nine stars are packed, snapped and ready to sync up for their lives in RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race Season 2. The second outing of the VH1 reality show adopts a new format similar to The masked singer, keeping the celebrities’ identities a secret until a new queen is eliminated each week. “We’re keeping the identities of our contestants a secret so you can stay laser-focused on their charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent,” RuPaul explained on the Aug. 12 premiere.
Nine secret celebrities have undergone a “wig-to-heel transformation”, performing in a lip-sync extravaganza in each episode. After each round, the final two contestants must lip sync for their lives in front of judges Michele Visage, Carson Kressley, Ross Mathews and, of course, Mama Ru. The last queen standing will win $100,000 for a charity of their choice, along with the title of “America’s Next Celeb Drag Superstar.”
Helping the celebs on their journeys are Queen Supreme Mentors, Jujubee, Brooke Lynn Hytes and Monét X Change. There will also be some “extra special guest stars” from Drag Race family – including Eureka, Gottmik, Katya, Morgan McMichaels, Silky Nutmeg Ganache and Violet Chachki – appearing throughout Season 2.
As the competition rages on, here are all the stars who Celeb Drag Race has revealed so far — plus the best guesses and fan theories about the queens yet to be revealed.
“Fabulosity” – Loretta DeVine
The first celebrity eliminated, Fabulosity, featured Emmy winner Loretta DeVine. “I had a very interesting career. I never thought I’d be in a drag race, but now I’m at an age where I want to do whatever I want!” she spoke of the “exciting and new” experience before performing a rendition of Mary J. Blige’s “Just Fine” and promising to “shock everyone.” After landing in the bottom two and coming close to lip-syncing to Bananarama’s “Venus,” Fabulosity had to bow out of the competition.
“Love with Poppies”
Among the clues about Poppy Love’s celebrity identity is that he is a “straight man” who lives to be on stage, known as his “happy place”. He added, “I’m doing this because I’m a huge advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. I am really in touch with my masculine and feminine sides. I’d like this opportunity to really get everyone in.” Following her performance of Alanis Morissette’s ‘You Oughta Know’, Poppy Love was announced as the first week’s winner. On Twitter, fans seemed convinced Poppy Love is Backstreet Boy AJ McLean because of his “special” voice and matching tattoos.
“People have always known who I am. I can’t hide, so assuming a new identity is really exciting for me,” the mysterious star hinted at the premiere, explaining that she’s been performing since she was a “little girl.” Also claiming that she’s been watching Drag Race “forever” and “grew up listening to RuPaul’s songs,” Chakra 7 first lip-synced Chaka Khan’s “I’m Every Woman.” After the performance, some fans believe she is The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air alum Tatyana Ali.
This yet-to-be-discovered star, who performed Nicki Minaj’s “Super Bass” for the first time, has been in show business for 20 years and wanted to try something different. “I have faced a lot with femininity as a problem. Now I want to be able to go up there and celebrate all of that,” he said, adding that he used to “stay in the closet” but “that’s all gone” now. So far, most users of Twitter seems to think so Donna Bellissima is Daniel Franzeseotherwise known as Damian from Mean girls.
“Mill from the Sun”
Before her debut lip-syncing to Ava Max’s “Sweet But Psycho,” Milli Von Sunshine noted that her background is in entertainment and performance. “Drag is just this other art form and this other identity that you get into,” she said, calling her participation a “new discovery” that she hopes will bring “a happy, positive energy to this world.” . After Episode 1, viewers embraced the theory that The mill is cheer alum Jenna Ushkowitz.
One of the most difficult celebrities to guess, Jackie Would, who performed “Juice” by Lizzo, described his attractive persona as a mix of “a little bit classy and a lot of fun.” Further explaining that he is “super passionate” about what he does, he hinted, “Professionally, I’m an expert in my field.” Although many have thought that Jackie could be someone from The Queer Eye, including Tan Francethe most prevalent theory is that she is Carson’s former co-star, interior designer Thom Filicia.
“I’m an entertainer; I’ve done it for many, many years, but to perform in drag? This is totally terrifying,” Electra said before her premiere performance of Pink’s “Raise Your Glass”. Also, one of the most confusing celebrities, guesses on Twitter ranged from Julie Bowen to a Real Housewife. However, most seem to be investing their money singer Taylor Dane.
“Von’s Thirsty Trap”
The first major clue to Thirsty Von Trap’s identity is that the star who portrays her was a child actor who grew up on television. “I’m a huge fan of the art of drag, and there’s a sense of confidence that I don’t necessarily know I have,” he explained, adding that joining Drag Race was an “exercise in self-confidence.” After Thirsty wowed the judges with a lip-sync to The Pussycat Dolls’ Don’t Cha, some viewers put the pieces together, suggesting she is indeed Ugly BettyMark Indelicato.
“I feel best when I’m on stage performing in front of an arena or theater full of people,” the secret celebrity – who performed an impressive rendition of Ciara’s ‘Goodies’ for the first time – explained at the premiere, adding that he ” came from music” and “was on a TV show.” On Twitter, however, he didn’t seem to be fooling many viewers, who are convinced that Chic-Li-Fay is Kevin McHale from cheer.
