How to Make Cookie Monster Cookies
A full printable version of this recipe with ingredient measurements is available at the bottom of this post.
FIRST STEP: Use an electric mixer to cream together the butter and both sugars in a large bowl until fluffy. Beat in the egg, vanilla and 3 drops of food coloring, adding more color as desired. Add the flour, baking soda, and salt, mixing until combined.

STEP TWO: Now, mix in ⅓ cup each of the white chocolate chips, mini chocolate chip cookies, and mini Oreos. Use a spoon or mixer to slightly crush the cookies while stirring.

THREE STEP: Form 6 equal portions of your dough, roll them into balls and place them on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Break up your remaining mini Oreos and chocolate chip cookies. Cover the tops of the cookie dough with the remaining white chocolate chips, Oreos, and chocolate chip cookie pieces.

STEP FOUR: Refrigerate your dough for at least 30 minutes and preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. The dough needs to be chilled for soft, chewy cookies!
STEP FIVE: Bake for about 15-18 minutes, until the edges are golden brown. Let your cookies cool for 5 minutes in the pan before transferring them to a rack to cool completely. Serve and enjoy!

Why are my cookie monster cookies falling apart?
The most likely culprit is impatience. Since these treats are so packed with goodness, be sure to let your cookies cool for at least five minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack.
And don’t forget to chill the dough before baking! This hardens the butter and prevents the cookies from spreading too thin in the oven.
Why is it called a monster cookie?
Generally, monster cookies contain a mixture of several different beloved cookies.
They are generally combinations of cookies such as oatmeal, peanut butter and chocolate and are called “monster cookies” in the spirit of Frankenstein’s monster.
These blue cookie monster cookies stand out from other monster cookies as they boast the familiar blue color of Sesame Street’s cookie monster and whole chunks of America’s favorite cookie.

Can these blue monster cookies be made ahead of time?
Absolutely! Make the dough and chill in the refrigerator for up to 2 days or in the freezer for up to 2 months before baking.
Once baked and stored in an airtight container, your cookies will stay fresh for 3-5 days at room temperature or up to a week in the refrigerator.
Can I customize this monster cookie recipe?
Of course you can! If the decadence of this recipe tempts you, but you’re not crazy about one or more of the ingredients, don’t despair.
It is very easy to change this recipe to please the whole family.
- Try red food coloring for Elmo cookies or yellow for Big Bird. Whatever the color, I like to use gel food coloring.
- Instead of white chocolate chips, you can choose dark or milk chocolate, M&Ms, Reese’s bars, peanut butter chips, butterscotch chips, or any other candy of your choice.
- Feel free to substitute your favorite cookie pieces.
- Make 12 smaller cookies instead of 6 large ones. You have this!
