NEW YORK – The BIG EAST Conference announced the dates and locations of the Olympic sports championships for the 2022-23 academic year, including expanded fields for the volleyball and softball tournaments. In addition, the BIG EAST has announced that broadcast partner FOX will show four regular season events on FS1 this fall in addition to regular championship coverage. All 22 BIG EAST championships, including the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments, are presented by JEEP.
Beginning in early September, FS1 will broadcast an in-state non-conference rivalry volleyball match. On Wednesday, September 7, defending BIG EAST champion Creighton hosts Nebraska at CHI Health Center Omaha at 5:00 pm CT in what is expected to be a top-25 matchup.
FS1 will continue its regular season coverage with a men’s soccer contest between Georgetown and St. John’s at Belson Stadium in Queens, NY on Friday, September 16 at 7:30 p.m.
A pair of BIG EAST women’s soccer games are also scheduled to air on FS1 to close out the month of September. On Thursday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m., a rematch of the 2021 BIG EAST title game as St. John’s faces Georgetown at the Maryland SoccerPlex. A week later, Providence will welcome Butler to Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium on Sept. 29 at 6 p.m.
Postseason coverage begins on FS1 with a championship doubleheader on Sunday, Nov. 6, with the women’s soccer title game scheduled for 12:30 p.m., before the field hockey championship at 3 p.m. will be nationally televised .
The BIG EAST Women’s Soccer Championship format will feature the No. 3 seed hosting the No. 6 seed and the No. 4 seed hosting the No. 5 seed in the first round on Sunday, Oct. 30. The site of the semi-finals and the championship game will be announced at a later date. The semi-finals will take place on Thursday, November 3.
For the first time since 2015, Old Dominion will host both rounds of the field hockey championship at the LRHill Sports Complex in Norfolk, Va., with the semifinals scheduled for Friday, Nov. 4.
The BIG EAST men’s soccer championship format will be the same as the women’s with the No. 3 and number 4 to be the hosts for the first round, and the semi-finals and final place will be determined. First round action will begin on Saturday, November 5, before the semi-finals on Thursday, November 10. FOX Sports will cover the championship game on Sunday, Nov. 13; network and start time will be announced at a later date.
The first round and semifinals of the men’s and women’s soccer championships, along with the field hockey championship semifinals will be broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network Presented by SoFi on FloSports (BEDN). Including all men’s and women’s soccer conference contests, approximately 350 BIG EAST events will be broadcast on FloSports this fall with nearly 600 events for the year.
The volleyball championship returns to DJ Sokol Arena in Omaha, Neb., hosted by Creighton with a new format. For the first time since the realignment, the championship will expand from four to six teams, with the top two teams earning a first-round bye. First round action will begin on Wednesday, November 23 with the no. 3 and the number 6 in the square, together with the seed no. 4 that will face the seed no. 5. The winning pair will advance to the semi-finals on Friday 25 November and the opening four matches will be broadcast live on BEDN. The championship game will then be broadcast on FS2 on Saturday, November 26. The start time will be announced at a later date.
The cross-county championships will be hosted by Providence at Highland Park in Attleboro, Mass., on Saturday, October 29. The men’s and women’s races will be broadcast on BEDN.
For the winter, the BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championships will return to the Nassau Aquatic Center in East Meadow, NY. The championship will take place from Wednesday, February 22 to Saturday, February 25. DePaul for the second straight year at the Gately Indoor Track & Field Complex in Chicago, Ill., on Friday, Feb. 24 and Saturday, Feb. 25. Both championships will be broadcast on BEDN.
The spring championships begin with the men’s and women’s tennis championships beginning on Thursday, April 20 and ending on Sunday, April 23 in Cayce, SC at the Cayce Tennis Center. It will be the seventh year in a row at Cayce. The Women’s Golf Championship will run concurrently, Friday, April 21st through April 23rd. This is followed by the Men’s Golf Championship, which will take place from Friday, April 28 to Sunday, April 30. The location will be announced later.
The men’s lacrosse championship will be hosted by Marquette at Valley Fields on Thursday, May 4 and Saturday, May 6. Although the women’s championship is played in Milwaukee, Wis., it will be the first time the men’s tournament will be hosted by the Golden Eagles. The women’s lacrosse championship will be hosted by Connecticut at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium on Friday, May 5 and Sunday, May 7.
The outdoor track and field championships return to Villanova, Pa., for the first time since 2017. Villanova will host the conference meet, which will take place on Friday, May 12 and Saturday, May 13 at Villanova Stadium. It will mark the 24th time the Wildcats will host the men’s and women’s championships simultaneously. Villanova also hosted the men’s championship in 1981 and 1982.
For the second time in three years, the softball championship is set to return to Burrill Family Field in Storrs, Conn., Wednesday, May 10 through Saturday, May 13. Beginning with the 2023 BIG EAST Championship, the field will expand from four to six teams.
Baseball returns to Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio for the fifth time, co-hosted by Xavier on Memorial Day weekend, Thursday, May 25 through Sunday, May 28.
The televised schedule of the Spring Olympic Games will be released this winter.
